In the fourth interview in our series aiming to highlight the range of people and skills that work in television, RTS Futures talks to Adrienne Doyard, who works as a Runner for the The Culture Show, BBC.

Describe your job in one sentence

I make people's lives easier.

 

What would your average day comprise?

I do lots of different things such as finding information about items, buying props, helping on the shoots and logging information.

 

Do you have any particular qualifications?

Having done rights studies has helped but it is not necessary.

 

What skills do you think are important for your job?

Be on the ball, show enthusiasm and have tangential thinking.

 

What were you doing three years ago?

An MA in Interactive Media at Goldsmiths University.

 

What do you want to be doing in three years time?

I would like to be a researcher.

 

Which other departments/people do you work with?

I work with lots of different people including production co-ordinators, directors, cameramen, researchers...

 

What do you enjoy most about your work?

Discovering new things.

 

What do you enjoy least?

Being stuck (sometimes I can't find a solution)

 

What advice do you wish you'd be given when you were 18?

Trust yourself and experiment.

 

Do you have a dream job?

As long as I am happy and learning new things, then this is my dream job.

 

Did you always want to work in this field?

I didn't always put it into words but yes.

 

Which television programme do you wish you'd worked on?

The Culture Show is the programme I wanted to work on.

 

What was your big break?

I did some work experience that gave me the chance to meet people and show what I was worth.
