Michael Brunson OBE

Michael Brunson is a freelance writer and broadcaster. He was, until March 2000, the Political Editor of ITN, and from 2000 to 2005, he was the political columnist of Saga Magazine.

He was educated at Bedford School, and The Queen’s College, Oxford. From 1972 - 1977, he was ITN’s Washington correspondent, and in 1980, he became ITN's Diplomatic Editor, regularly reporting on summit meetings between world leaders.

 During 14 years at Westminster, he covered every major development in British politics.  In 1997, he was the co-presenter (with Jonathan Dimbleby) of ITV's General Election night results programme. During the 2001 campaign, he was the presenter of Channel Four’s daily programme Election Powerhouse, and during the last General Election, he regularly appeared on Sky News as an in-house political commentator.

Michael has been actively involved in the promotion of citizenship education. He was a member of the Crick committee which advised the Government on the introduction of citizenship education in schools, and has also served as a Trustee of the Citizenship Foundation. From 2000 to 2004, he was also a member of the Learning and Skills Council’s Adult Learning Committee, and took a particular interest in the development of Further Education colleges.  He is married, with two sons, Jonathan and Robin, and he and his wife Sue now live in Norfolk.
