Doctor Who

After much speculation David Tennant announced last night at the National Television Awards that he is quitting his role as Doctor Who at the end of next year.

"In January I go back to make four new specials which take Doctor Who through to the end of 2009," he said. "But when Doctor Who returns in 2010, it won't be with me. The 2009 shows will be my last playing the Doctor."

David’s departure will coincide with the exit of the show’s executive producer Russell T. Davies, who revived the cult show's revival in 2005.

As to who will be replacing Tennant as the new Doctor, Steven Moffat the show’s new executive producer, remained tight lipped saying: "You'll be hearing from us."

When he departs Tennant will have been in the role for 3 series and eight specials.
