Excited Doctor Who fans tried to get in touch with the Time Lord after his phone number was shown on the latest programme. More than 2,500 fans dialled the number during the final episode of the series on Saturday writes the Daily Mail. Unfortunately for his fans the Time Lord’s personal number - 07700 900461 proved to be a fake and would not connect.
One fan wrote on the BBC website said: “Grrr - I phoned the Doctor's phone number but there was just an annoying network message. What's the point in showing a phone number if you're not gonna use it?!”
The TV industry watchdog Ofcom explained that the bogus number was one used in television dramas. “It wouldn't have cost anything to call these numbers because they are not real,” said an Ofcom spokesman.
A huge audience of nearly 10 million watched the final episode in the latest series of Doctor Who on Saturday. During it’s peak 9.8million viewers watched the finale, taking 47 per cent of the total audience share.
David Tennant has not yet confirmed if he will return to his role as Doctor Who in the next full series in 2010. Actors Robert Carlyle, James McAvoy and David Morrissey have been tipped as the three favorites by book maker William Hill to replace Mr Tennant.
