Profile: Andrew Newman

Andrew Newman was appointed Head of Comedy and Entertainment at Channel 4 in 2006. He returned to Channel 4 as Head of Entertainment in January 2004 after a two year stint as Controller of Entertainment at Five.
Andrew’s recent commissioning credits include the multi-award winning Peep Show, The IT Crowd, Star Stories, Fonejacker, and sketch show Modern Toss. After returning to Channel 4 in 2004 as Head of Entertainment, Andrew commissioned 8 out of 10 Cats, the award-winning The Friday Night Project, Rock School, Bo Selecta and Derren Brown: Mind Control.
Between 1998 and 2001 Andrew worked as Commissioning Editor for Entertainment at Channel 4 and oversaw output including Da Ali G Show, The 11 O'clock Show, The Priory, Bremner, Bird and Fortune, TFI Friday, The Adam and Joe Show and Something for the Weekend. He was subsequently made Head of Programmes for the launch of E4 in January 2001 and commissioned many of the channel’s most successful series, including Banzai, Big Brother’s Little Brother and Popworld.
As a producer, Andrew’s credits included; the original series of 11 O'clock Show, Brass Eye, as well as The Word's notorious Hopefuls strand. Other production credits include Big Breakfast and Sunday Show for BBC.
