A belated thank you to RTS for the How to Pitch discussion....I thought it was brilliant that the panel made the discussion interative in the sense that they allowed the audience to ask questions during the discussion rather than allowing a brief moment at the end. I believed the panel were as informative as they could have been about the industry and the rest we will have to learn from exprience. I agree with some of the comments about channel 4 being a better host venue than the BBC.

Hi all thanks for your comments - its really useful to know about practical problems like lack of refreshments or queues so that we can try get it right next time. What did everyone think of the content of the evening? Would you like to see something similar next time - any ideas?

I enjoyed the panel discussion and found it interesting. The speakers were all really good but I was dissapointed with the venue. When we arrived we were left standing in the rain outside for 15 minutes and then taken straight to the studio. There was no direction to the toilet or chance for a drink etc - not even a glass of water. We were pleased when we got told that there was drinks etc in the bar afterwards but dissapointed when we got there because we had to pay for it. Coming straight from work I was starving and a bowl of chips would have cost me £2.50! After Channel 4 being such good hosts and giving us wine, nibbles etc we were really annoyed so we quickly left in search of reasonably priced food and drink. The "networking" at these events is the most enjoyable part normally but with this one we were let down by the venue.

I loved the informal format, I thought it was a great structure for getting to hear from the panel about what the audience wanted to hear. It could have gone on all night and still would not have had everyone's questions answered! Great venue, it would have been fun to see one of the panel attempting a pitch to the others!

I thought it was a great event too. Very informative but not in a preachy way, and the whole evening felt really informal. I didn't ask a question myself but enjoyed hearing what everyone else was interested in and concerned about. And it was great fun to be in the Blue Peter studio, although a little disappointing that we weren't all given a BP badge on our way out!

I was disappointed that we didn’t more from the panel. It would have been great to hear more about the challengers of their role, how the have achieved their success and some more anecdotes about the best pitch, worst pitch, programme ideas they passed on and regretted etc. The chair of the evening made the point that he first pitched ‘Who do you think you are’ in 1989 – it would have been really interesting to explore how this pitch evolved over the years until the show was commissioned. Most of the questions from the group seemed to be searching for a magic formula for a pitch, whereas hearing more from the panel about their work, may have given us insights that the straight Q&A didn’t.
Venue was great.

The speakers were great, knowledgable and honest which was really useful. As an event, however, i found it fairly dull. It would have been great to have a premeet, maybe a drink to encourage more networking-banter in the same vein as the LA Screenings. It seemed that Channel 4 did a far better job of hosting than BBC.

I really enjoyed this event. I particularly liked the venue - the Blue Peter studio provided an informal atmosphere and gave us chance to have a peek around working set. There was quite a buzz about the audience and they were keen to ask lots of questions. Unfortunately there wasn't enough time to answer everyone’s queries, so perhaps a longer Q & A session could be good at future events.
