1800 redundancies at BBC

"BBC director general Mark Thompson has confirmed net redundancies of 1,800 people, Broadcast has learned. Sources said that in a conference call with senior creatives this evening, Thompson revealed that there would be 2,500 post closures, but that after redeployment this would equate to about 1,800 redundancies. The majority of job losses will be, as expected, within news and factual. "

Are you likely to be affected? What effect is this going to have on the BBC and television in general?

I'm mildy concerned about the effect an extra 1800 people looking for jobs will have in the indie freelance sector.... these people are going to have to find jobs somewhere! Its already tricky enough to get a contract in production without having another 1800 people fighting for the same jobs :-(
