Doctor Who gap year
http://www.broadcastnow.co.uk/broadcastnowarticle.aspx?intStoryID=170927
Dr Who is taking a bit of a break, no new series in 2009, instead there will be 3 'specials' written by Russell T Davies and staring David Tennant. But who the Doctor will be when he returns is up in the air a bit.
Will this be good for the series long term, keeping it fresh? Or is it just an attempt to keep Davies and Tennant involved?

No kidding.... and I thought I worked too much! 80 minutes of Extras does seem slightly excessive even for a Christmas Special, mind. |

An attempt to keep RTD and Tennant, undoubtably. Tennant's two big roles that he's aspired to play over the last 10 years have been the Doctor and Hamlet. To find some way to let him do both is ideal for all concerned, especially given the amount the profile of the show has risen since it came back. I think it's a good thing. It'll keep the show fresh (assuming the tabloids relax slightly in the off-season), and I'll get to see David Tennant in the theatre again in a role that allows a little more depth than a family show.
