RTS Futures is the place for young people interested in television. With a dedicated and interactive website featuring exclusive content, discussion and debate, you can build your profile, upload videos and chat with other members of the online RTS Futures community. With many exciting events throughout the year, RTS Futures truly gives you the inside track on all aspects of television.

 

RTS Futures Events 

RTS Futures was launched on the 26th September 2007 with a spectacular event at Madame Tussauds in London. Special guest speakers Hardeep Singh Kohli, Charlie Brooker, Ash Atalla, Victoria Coren and Alex Zane thrashed out, in their irreverent and informed ways, The Future of Television.

 

The LA Screenings event in October 2007 showcased a pilot of hotly anticipated US drama Dirty Sexy Money. RTS Futures members voted via the website in advance for their favorite programme to be screened on the night. The evening was held at Channel 4’s headquarters and an experienced panel including ITV’s Jay Kandola, Rebecca Segal & David Smyth from Sky One, Tom Toumazis of Disney-ABC International Television and Heather Jones at Viacom explained to the audience everything about buying and selling Hollywood’s hits.

How To Pitch­, took place in November 2007 at the BBC's Blue Peter studio. The evening gave an extraordinary insight into the pitching process, with live pitches from seasoned producers and top commissioners revealing what really convinces them to splash their cash.

­The Lost TV Generation? was held on the 12th of February 2008. This event aimed to communicate with our membership how to create a hit show that talks to a young audience.

Are you having a laugh? How to get into Comedy took place at Madame Jojo's on 21st April 2008. Hosted by stand up Tom Price, the evening featured comedy luminaries giving advice about comedy writing and producing.

Breaking the News chaired by Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Presenter for Channel 4 News and hosted by Google at their headquarters in London. RTS Futures members heard from those behind the headlines and found out what they do in the newsroom every morning, day and night to keep the public on the pulse of world and domestic events.

RTS Futures summer event How To Be A Presenter was held on the 17th June 2008 . A panel of television experts shared their top tips, golden rules and answered the questions from the audience on the topic.


How to Pitch 2 kicked off the second year of RTS Futures events in December 2008. Chaired by Tim Hincks, Endemol UK's Chief Executive Officer, the panel: Peter Fincham Director of Television, ITV, Camilla Lewis Head of Factual Features, talkbackTHAMES, Walter Iuzzolino Deputy Head, Features, Channel 4, delivered insider information on the pitching process.


Art of the Interview took place in January 2009 and explored how to conduct a successful interview with celebrities, politicians and everyday people on the street. Alastair Stewart OBE, Michael Brunson OBE, Miquita Oliver, Nick Robinson and Jon Ronson made up the panel of experts.

From Script to Screen saw writers Tony Jordan and Alice Nutter reveal their thoughts on the different routes into screenwriting, how to get projects away, and the pushes and pulls of the production process. The event, which was held on the 1st April 2009 was chaired by the Guardian's TV critic Gareth McLean.

RTS Futures held its first event, How to Pitch in Birmingham in April 2009, which discussed the process of pitching. With Johannah Dyer, Aysha Rafaele, Jonnie Turpie and Catherine Elliott-Kemp.

Me and My Producer was held in May 2009 and featured Davina McCall and her Big Brother producer Phil Edgar-Jones discussing what goes into building the perfect TV partnership. This event was chaired by Time Out editor Mark Frith.
